Château Canon was awarded the title of Premier Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion in 1954.

A mild, dry winter preceded heat waves in the spring, with temperatures rising throughout the season. Thunderstorms occurred during the transition from spring to summer. The limestone soils were conducive to water conservation on the plateau, despite a summer marked by drought and intense heat.
